Most Difficult Golf Course in Florida

When it comes to challenging golf courses, Florida is home to a variety of unique courses that offer not only difficult holes but also unique and challenging terrain.

At the top of the list in difficulty is the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami. Even though Doral Resort has five courses to choose from the most difficult is the Doral’s Blue Monster course. The two most challenging holes are the 12th and 18th. The 12th hole is one of the longest at 610-yards. The 18th hole, however, is the alligator so to speak. It is a par 4, 467-yard hole where your drive as a really good possibility of landing in the bass-filled lake that cuts into half of the fairway. The wind of course is not going to help you land in a good position to land anywhere close to where you want to be.

Next on the list is La Playa Resort in Naples. This golf course is for guests only and offers a gulf side layout with a magnificent view, but many difficult holes to match. The 8th hole is a 444-yard par 4 with a dogleg to the right that you cannot quite believe. All skill levels will enjoy the challenge offered by this 18-hole par 72-championship course on 14 acres, however, you must watch ahead or your golf ball will wind up in bunkers or swimming.

The PGA National Resort & Spa of course is on the list for the most difficult golf courses in Florida. All fives courses are challenging however, the most difficult is The Champion which features “The Bear Trap”. This trap spans three challenging holes, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The 11th hole is the one that gets most players. It is a par 4, 419 yard hole with a very small green in which to land that flying golf ball. There is water on both the left and right of the green with a huge trap behind, not only does the water play a part while driving, but the water is briefly in front of the green as well.

The Stadium Course located at TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach may have just completed renovation but the 18th hole is still a monster. Water is on the left of the fairway with large mounds on the right that are sure to send your ball flying to never never land. It has a small dogleg to the left with a 440-yard drive. This is not the only challenging hole as you are sure to learn once your ball rolls away behind the trees or to other difficult shots.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is another resort with a difficult golf course located in Destin, Florida. Rumor has it that the 14th hole of the Burnt Pine Course is worst that anything imaginable. The Choctawhatchee Bay shoreline is off to the right and nothing but mud to the left. It is a 212 yard hole par 3, that is challenging even for the pros. The resort has three other courses to choose from if you are not daring enough to play with the big boys.
